GARY ALEXANDER
Steeped in racing tradition, the Alexander racing dynasty dates back to Gary's father Duncan. Duncan Alexander was a leading light-weight jockey in South Africa and won the majority of major races in the country from the Summer Handicap to the J&B Met.After retiring from the saddle, Duncan took out a training license and with a small string enjoyed success. Gary made a point of accompanying his father when ever the opportunity arose, it was inevitable that Gary would take out his own trainers licence.

In 1982 Gary was granted his training license by the Jockey Club of Southern Africa, he took over the reins from his father and went on to establish a world-class facility at Turffontein Racecourse. Gary has trained over 1500 winners to date, which includes over 100 group and listed race winners. Gary received a special achievement award from the Racing Association in 2006 and in 2012 he was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Racing Association.

Gary was voted trainer of the year in 2000 by the Racing Association when he won no less than 13 Group races in that season. Gary has finished third on the National Trainers Log three times. and this is testimony to the fact that he has a competent team backing him up.

DEAN ALEXANDER
Dean Alexander is Gary's younger brother and business partner. Dean was appointed a Steward at the Vaal Turf Club in 1990 and thereafter was appointed a steward at Gosforth Park Turf Club a position he held until the clubs amalgamated to form Phumelela Gaming & Leisure Ltd.
For the past thirty years Gary & Dean have been a formidable team. Their list of achievements, include the South African record for the most stakes earned in one day, this being achieved on April 27, 2000 when their runners captured a hat-trick of group races, namely the South African Derby(GR1), the Champion Stakes(GR1) and the Gold Bowl(GR2), add to this the achievement of training six winners on one day at South Africa's premier racetrack, Turffontein, on two separate occasions and one can see that this is a top team and top trainers.
